How to Plant and Grow Garlic | Gardener's Path

The beneficial effects of Allium sativum (GARLIC) on health have been emphasized for centuries. Garlic is a rich source of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, iron, manganese, and calcium. Garlic contains numerous compounds that have the potential to influence immunity. What makes garlic a magical immunity booster is the presence of Allicin, a sulfur-containing phytonutrient, which helps in fighting several ailments, likely to be the source of its antibacterial and anti-viral properties. In fact, the presence of immunity-boosting nutrients and antioxidants makes garlic a miraculous spice, which has been used for treating several diseases like smallpox, coronary diseases, seasonal flu, infections, cardiovascular disorders, gastric ulcer, and even cancer, etc. Raw garlic has the potential to ward off cough and cold conditions. Eating two crushed garlic cloves on an empty stomach has the maximum benefit. For kids and babies, hanging garlic cloves in a thread around their necks is supposed to relieve congestion symptoms. Using garlic as an immune booster is to eat it raw. Chewing garlic releases the allicin in the mouth which is then absorbed by the body. When it’s taken with food or in the form of pills, the effectiveness is not the same, as it goes directly to the stomach and the active compound ‘allicin’ is inactivated by the acidic nature of the enzymes in the stomach. So, you either take 2-3 pieces of raw garlic cloves in a day or you chop them significantly less and use them in soups, salads, etc. wherein they can be chewed for reaping their maximum benefits.
